The already decorative storefronts along the Morganford Business District in Tower Grove South are taking things to the next level. The Tin Can has had their “beer can” sculpture up for some time now, but to my knowledge, the rest of these have popped up within the last few weeks. Read more

Owning a commercial storefront and living along a busy street in an urban area can be quite the eye opening experience. The noise ceased to bother me a long time ago, but there is one thing I just can’t just and probably never will be able to tolerate: TRASH. Read more

Tucked away among the warehouses of the St. Louis neighborhood of Fox Park, in the basement of the Koken Art Factory building, is a new and unique entertainment venue. UR MOMS Bar at 2500 Ohio takes karaoke to the next level by incorporating a live band into the performance. Read more

The side of Park West Grille (2917 Jefferson Ave) just got a face lift. Check out this great looking mural that now advertises the site as you drive along the burgeoning South Jefferson Commerical District. It adds a nice touch to the strip, don’t you think.

Ever since Anheuser-Busch and InBev came to terms on their merger/takeover, I have been thinking a lot about St. Louis’ future. Whether or not St. Louis retains an important role in the Anheuser-Busch InBev corporate structure, there is no doubt that changes are on the way. Read more

Established businesses continue to expand, and new ones are just around the corner. That pretty much sums up the current Morganford experieince. With the exception of Manchester Avenue in Forest Park Southeast (The Grove), I can’t think of any other St. Louis commercial district that has seen a more significant turnaround that Morganford. I’ve touched on this strip in the Tower Grove South neighborhood in previous posts, but the news just seems to keep coming. Read more

Having moved back to South St. Louis a year ago, after a long hiatus in the suburbs, I have really enjoyed being back. While I recognize that “city life” isn’t for everybody, I think that St. Louis has made some real strides in terms of winning back people lost during the mass exodus era of the 80’s and 90’s. Both commercial and residential sectors that had long been neglected, are seeing new life. Even North City is starting to see a significant turnaround in areas such as Old North St. Louis. Read more

This is a piece of trash. Intimidating isn’t it. Well don’t worry. If the St. Louis Board of Alderman has it’s way you won’t have to see this stuff anymore. According to an article recently published in the South Side Journal (Business owners want trash bill canned), Alderman Steve Conway, D-8th Ward, has sponsored a bill requiring convenience stores and carryout restaurants to pick up all trash originating from their place of business within a 300 foot radius at least once a day. About a month ago I posted about a couple of microbreweries coming to the Benton Park Neighborhood of St. Louis in the coming months: Mattingly Brewing Company and the Stable. Info has been scarce on the Stable until I got a email from a reader a couple weeks back. Thanks to that contact, I had the opportunity to tour the facility this morning and chat with one of the owners. I’m happy to say that the project is coming along great and that they are on track for a June opening. Read more

The former location of the florist shop Kabloom, at the intersection of Grand and Arsenal at 3101 South Grand, is about to take on a new tenant: Emack & Bolio’s. What in the world is Emack & Bolio’s you ask? Apparently, it is a Boston-based ice cream chain. Most of their locations appear to be in Massachusetts, but they have a few others scattered throughout the country including one in Springfield, Missouri. No word on when it’s set to open. Read more

They say that good things come in pairs. I’ve always been rather fond of microbreweries, so I guess in stands to reason that they would hold to this rule. If everything goes as planned, the Benton Park Neighborhood of South St. Louis, will be home to two such establishments by the end of 2008: Mattingly Brewing Company and The Stable. Read more
