If you’ve ever been curious about where and when murders have been taking place in St. Louis City, the Post Dispatch has just made your wish come true. They just posted a map with all the murders in the City over the past three and a half years. The map can be personalized to show murders in only certain years.
Looking at the map, its quite obvious that a majority of homicides have occurred in North St. Louis. Specifically, north of Delmar. Occurrences throughout south and central city, generally seem pretty scattered. However, the neighborhoods of Benton Park West and Gravois Park seem to be the epicenter of murders in that part of town. The relative lack of any such activity, west of Grand, was definitely a pleasant surprise.
I would love to seem a map like this displaying all violent crime and another with property crime. That would really be interesting. Probably a little too much number-entry to hope for. If you want to check out the map for yourself, check it out on the papers website.

Horrible interface, but here it is: http://safecity.slmpd.org/index.htm
Matt,
Not quite as user friendly as the PD map, but the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department has the Safe City Map (http://64.218.68.50/stlouis/newslmpd/viewer.htm). Its a GIS-based searchable map. If i recall its accuracy isn’t great becuase it only shows calls for service instead report numbers drawn. I just went to the site, it was glitchy, but you may be able to gleen something from it.
