Fox Park building saved?

<?php the_title(); } ?>

A couple of months back, I posted about a mixed-use property in the South St. Louis neighborhood of Fox Park at 2001 South Jefferson that was about to meet its doom. I am happy to report that ten weeks later it is still standingto my total surprise.

About a week after posting about this issue, the banner that had been on the front of the building, advertising the contractor handling the demolition, came down. I figured that meant the work was eminent. Apparently, that wasn’t the case. Whether it was the concerned owner, the neighborhood association or Alderman Phyllis Young who stepped in, it seems the building is being allowed another life. Who knows the property’s final fate, but the fact that it got through one near-miss is good news.

    I hope this one survives. It has a really cool cast iron storefront – if a new owner would step in and open up the bricked-over front windows, it would really look great. The little deck on the second floor is a cool touch as well. That whole block is pretty much under-utilized.

    Thanks for the update. I hate to see anymore building tore down.
